On Friday May 20 2011, Sophia's grandpa Robert Parker reported both Sophia and her mother Claudia Pedreros missing after discovering that they were missing along with the family car.
At around 9 am, Trinity County Sheriff's deputies located Claudia walking naked along Highway 3. According to officers, Claudia said she didnt remember having a daughter or how she got to Trinity County. The family car was also found, parked at the Trinity River Campground. All personl things, except for the child's car seat was found strewn along the highway. But there was no Sophia.
A search and rescue team starts looking for Sophia. They search pass midnight and begin again on Saturday. At about 1:20 PM, little Sophia was found dead in the Trinity River.
It was suspected that Claudia suffered from a mental health problem. However a judge found her to be capable of standing trial. She has entered a plea of not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity. She will be in court on August 17 to set a preliminary date.
With any hope justice for this sweet little girl will be served. Insane or not, that woman deserves nothing less then prison time. Her daughter only got two short years on this Earth.
